Projects

This page lists brief details and explanations about the projects most relevant to my interests as a geographer while providing a few snippets of the work itself.

01

Changes in the Mid-Atlantic Air Pollutant Concentrations

(June-July 2022) This project was done under the guidance of the NOAA Cooperative Science Center in Atmospheric Sciences and Meteorology (NCAS-M) and Professor Ricardo Sakai from Howard University. For this project, I used raw data about Carbon Monoxide (CO) and Fine Particulate Matter (PM2.5) concentrations in Beltsville, MD, collected through the years 2008-2018. I then had to program graphs using the coding language R to show the overall changes and averages of CO and PM2.5 in the atmosphere.

02

The Disproportionate Influence of Climate Change on Minority Populations

(December 2021) This was a video project I created for my class, EMSC 100S: Climate Change and Potential Societal Impacts. I spent time researching and finding colorful images and videos to film and edit a video that is both informative and engaging about how climate change disproportionately affects minority populations.

03

Capstone: Communities In Crisis: Student Voices

(September 2022) This writing project focuses on the impact of climate change on small communities rather than looking at the Earth as a whole. Some of the topics of my papers include Heatwaves in Baltimore, Maryland; Rising Sea Levels in Pass Christian, Mississippi; Extreme Precipitation in Ellicott City, Maryland; and more.

04

Sorting Food Waste at the University Level: An Examination of Penn State Students’ Composting Habits

(December 2022) This is a study of A random selection of 51 Penn State students’ Food Waste sorting habits. We were able to collect and analyze data through the usage of a survey to see if the
student’s sorting habits live up to Penn State’s reputation of being a leader
 in sustainability.

Capstone: Fresh4Less

(March 2023) This is a presentation made for a Capstone that I did on a study abroad trip to Iceland. The main objective of this project was to create a business pitch about a grocery store that gives people in food deserts access to healthy and affordable foods while curving food waste through the process of composting leftovers into biofuel.

06

Climate Mobility in South East Asia

(April 2023) This Story Map takes a look at Climate Mobility and Displacement in Southeast Asia using the Philipines and Indonesia to highlight the severity of the issue. I used ArcGIS Online to create interactive maps to show major displacement events related to storms and extreme flooding from January 2023 to Mid-April 2023 (Data was taken from the Internal Displacement Monitoring Center). I then used ArcGIS Story Maps to then display all my findings.

Electric Car Battery Plant
Location Proposal

(April 2023) This capstone is a location proposal I did with a group of classmates as a semester-long project. The goal was to find a location for an Electric Car Battery Plant to be built in Pennsylvania based on a specific set of parameters. For this project, I did some background research, collected and made datasets for maps, and wrote parts of the actual proposal.

08

Veteran Populations and Mental Health Facility Locations in PA

(October 2023) This poster looked at the presence of different types of mental health care facilities in Pennsylvania about the veteran population across the state. During this project, I created maps to showcase my data and used the coding language R to perform point pattern analysis on various data sets to understand the spatial reasons why some veterans in the state of Pennsylvania may not have access to different types of mental health care facilities. This poster also has an accompanying Story Map that goes into more detail about the analysis portion of this project.
